Joined the IPS in 1967. Retired on 31.3.2004 as Director General of Police equivalent to the Secretary to the Government of India.
Till recently a member of a Monitoring Committee of Delhi High Court to ensure demolition of unauthorized constructions, removal of encroachments from public land and check misuse of properties in Delhi. Govt. land worth thousands of crores was got retrieved from the encroachers.
Recently served as a member of the Interview Board of UPSC for selection of IAS/IPS/IFS/IRS and other services.
Security Advisor to two big industrial groups.
Member of the Governing Body of a leading University.
Earlier served as Director General of Police with the Govt. of India as DG SSB & DG Civil Defence, and as DGP and Home Secretary Manipur at the peak of insurgency. As DGP Tripura was able to control two decade old insurgency.
Served in various capacities also in Delhi Police, BSF, NSG, CRPF, CISF, BPR&D, and in difficult areas like Punjab, J&K and North - East. Worked in fields of Insurgency, Law & Order, Industrial Security, Disaster Management, Security of International Borders, Fire Fighting, Prisons etc.
Awarded many medals including President's Medal for Distinguished Services. Has represented India in International Conferences.
Author of 11 books on police and non-police subjects. Has been awarded two prizes – one each by the Ministry of Home Affairs and National Human Rights Commission – for his books on Police and Human Rights
Training is a hobby. Self also got trained at the Dale Carnegie Center of Excellence, New York, and Royal Institute of Public Administration, London. With M5 Trainers holding training workshops on soft skills like High Impact Presentation Skills, Attitude, Success, Motivation, Communication Skills, Time & Stress Management etc. Clients like Reliance, Air India, Reliance, Air India, NTPC, NHPC, Jubilant Organosys, Indian Express have benefited. Recently trained more than 100 IPS Officers in National Police Academy in Public Speaking..
