Joined the IPS in 1967 after graduation from Delhi University. Retired in 2004 as Director General of Police from Government of India.
Served as Director General of Police with the Govt. of India as DG SSB & DG Civil Defence, and as DGP and Home Secretary Manipur at the peak of insurgency. As DGP Tripura was able to control two decade old insurgency.
Served in various capacities also in Delhi Police, BSF, NSG, CRPF, CISF, BPR&D, and in difficult areas like Punjab, J&K and North - East. Worked in fields of Insurgency, Law & Order, Industrial Security, Disaster Management, Security of International Borders, Fire Fighting, Prisons, Rehabilitation etc.
Has represented India in International Conferences in security matters.
Has been working as Security Advisor to big industrial groups, leading Banks and others during the last six years since retirement.
Awarded many medals including President’s Medal for Distinguished Services.
Author of 12 books including books on Industrial Security. Awarded prizes by MHA and NHRC for two of his books.
Was an ‘Eminent Citizen’ of the Govt. of India to monitor expenditure under MGNREGA scheme.
Earlier served as a member of a Monitoring Committee of Delhi High Court to ensure demolition of unauthorized constructions and removal of encroachments from public land. Retrieved government land worth thousands of crores.
Is an Advisor to UPSC for selection of IAS/IPS/IFS/IRS and other services.
Was a member of the Indian team for Track-II dialogue with Bangladesh.
Training others in soft skills is a hobby. Self also got trained at the Dale Carnegie Center of Excellence, New York, and Royal Institute of Public Administration, London. With M5 Trainers holding training workshops on many subjects for big companies. He also conducts on ‘Public Speaking Mastery’ in his M5 Institute of Public Speaking in New Delhi.
Member of Governing Body of a leading University and of Board of Directors of the prestigious Gymkhana Club, New Delhi.
Also involved in social work with NGOs ‘Vastradan’,‘Samkalp’ and ‘Sub Ki Sewa’.
